Learning Math through 5 pin tabletop bowling

MDH Toys Table Top Bug Bowling wooden game made in Canada by M.D. Handfield Designs Inc.

Did you know that 5 pin bowling is a game only found in Alberta and B.C? In the rest of the world, 10 pin bowling is the norm.

Being that I am from Alberta, I decided to create my tabletop bowling sets to follow the Alberta made game. And then I recreated the rules.

Math has never been so much fun before! Each of the MDH Tabletop Bowling Games are themed characters that not only promote storytelling, but also help your children to add and subtract while they play! Your children will have so much fun with this game that they may forget they are learning through play.

Using 5 pin Tabletop Bowling to Strengthen Addition Skills

• Set the pins up on one end of a table in a v-shape with the point of the v being closest to you.
• Front pin is 5 points, middle pins are 3 points each and back pins are 2 points each.
• Starting from the other side of the table, players will take turn rolling the balls towards the pins to knock them down.
• Player 1 rolls the ball 2 times and adds up how many pins they knocked down in total. Write down score. Then it is the next player's turn.
• Player 2 rolls the ball 2 times and adds up how many pins they knocked down in total. Write down score. Then go on to the next player.
• Repeat until all players have had a turn.
• Do this 10 times and then add up all your points for your final score.
• Person with the highest final score wins.
